Nova establishes Charles Malspeis Memorial Scholarship with The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation
New Scholarship named in honor of Charles Malspeis Jacksonville FL. Nova Pressroom Products is pleased to announce that it has funded a new scholarship to be named in honor of one of its founders, Charles (Chuck) Malspeis. The Charles Malspeis Memorial Scholarship is being established with The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) of Pittsburgh PA. The endowment will be funded initially at the Print Heritage level of $25,000. The scholarship is being established by Nova as a memorial for Chuck and in recognition of the 60th anniversary year of PGSF.
Chuck was one of the founding partners of Nova and served as their Vice President of Technical Services and the Coating Division. He directed all Nova coating research and production. With twenty years of experience at Anchor and FUJIFILM Hunt Chemicals, he became known throughout the ink and coatings industry as the innovator of today’s top specialty aqueous and UV coatings. Backed by a BS in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati, Chuck designed compatible coatings for today’s inks. He was dedicated to serving his customers and guiding printers to practical solutions for production challenges. Chuck lost his life in a tragic drowning accident in June 2011, at the age of 47.
The Malspeis Memorial Scholarship will provide young students who are pursuing a course of study in the graphic arts with the opportunity to enhance their education. This is an important way to invest in the future workforce of the industry. The endowment is open for further contributions and additional companies, friends, and associates of Chuck are encouraged to add to the fund.
“Chuck will always be a part of Nova,” stated Ron Rose, President of Nova Pressroom Products, LLC. “Each day we recommit our efforts to fulfill his dedication to our distributors, customers, and the printing industry.”
“PGSF is dedicated to promoting careers in the graphic arts, and we are pleased to provide this vehicle for Nova to recognize Mr. Malspeis and his love for the trade,” said John Berthelsen, VP-Development for PGSF. “With the establishment of this endowment his legacy will leave a perpetual testament to his dedication and trust in the industry.”
